Anne McCaffrey's Moreta Dragonlady of Pern

Moreta Dragonlady of Pern by Anne McCaffrey

How many of you remember Anne McCaffrey? I do. I discovered AM‘s books when I was in grade 4. Grade 4 for me was the year I discovered the true magic of books. I don’t remember much of library time for grades 1 to 3. Grade 3 for me was the Year of the Writer. It’s when I discovered I wanted to be writer. But grade 4, oh grade 4! Grade 4 was the Year of the Great Books. I felt like an explorer discovering a whole new world and all the many possibilities that abounded within that new world. I discovered C.S. Lewis and Anne McCaffrey. Her magical world of Pern and the stories of the Dragonriders were for me an ethereal escape. Those books made a huge impression on me. I devoured the books as soon as I could get my hands on them. It was one of the many books that inspired the love of libraries and reading in me. Oh, to see Anne McCaffrey’s world of Pern with its Dragonriders on the big screen would be a treat indeed.

Even thinking about it now, I’m transported back to a magical world of Weyrfolk and dragons, Holders and Holds, Crafthalls, the Holdless and Thread. Even now I wish I was one of the Weyrfolk, a Dragonrider who will soon form a bond by Impression with a new Gold Queen dragon hatchling.

With movies like DragonHeart, Eragon and How To Train Your Dragon, now would be the perfect time to adapt a novel of Pern into a movie! With the amazing advances in CGI and 3D technology it’s totally do – able!

~P.S.~ I wonder if Christopher Paolini, the author of Eragon, got his telepathy idea from AM. Or is it just a given part of Dragon Lore? Either way, I like it. I like it a lot.

Dr. Grace Augustine

Did you ever notice how every time Jake extends his hand to shake

in friendship and greeting he gets dissed? First Dr. Augustine pshaws his olive branch and then the Na’vi freak out when he dares to try and lay hands upon their leader. Sheesh! Can’t a guy get a break!

Paul Bettany_Reel Movie News

Paul Bettany_Reel Movie News

I thought it was Jude Law who played the voice of Jarvis, Tony Stark’s super computer, but it was actually Paul Bettany. Can’t believe I confused the two! I’m a big fan of Paul Bettany. Just watched him in The Young Victoria. But I’m also a fan of

Jude Law, who does star in Sherlock Holmes with RDJ. Oh well, I am getting old, and you know what they say about your hearing, eh? I’m looking forward to Ironman 2. Are you?

Thor

Thor

Holy Marvel Comics Batman! The Marvel Universe is blowing up on screen! Enter the Thor movie! It will be directed by Kenneth Branagh (remember him from Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing?) This should be interesting. I, however, am totally down with this kind of movie fare, so you know I’ll be watching it! Even the Norse gods want a piece of Hollywood!

~P.S~ Batman is not in the Marvel Universe. He is in the DC Universe. I bet you guys didn’t know I knew that! :D

~P.P.S.~ I think Alexander Skarsgard would have rocked in this role. :(

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth is set to play the title role. I’ll give him a chance. Look how much we love Andy Whitfield as Spartacus. Andy Whitfield is Spartacus. Maybe Chris Hemsworth will go down in Pop Culture history as the Thor. Who knows? What do you think about casting fresh faces in big lead roles? (Ok, maybe Chris Hemsworth is familiar. He did play James T. Kirk’s dad in last year’s Star Trek afterall. And do you notice all these severely fresh actors from Australia all of a sudden? I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely diggin’ it! Love that accent!)
