Or I predict it will. Apocalyptic devastation can’t hold a candle to the fang-demonium inspired by the vampires of theTwilight Saga.

Advance ticket sales for New Moon are the highest ever! In all of history! Outselling even the Dark Knight, Star Wars, Harry Potter, AND (gasp!) Lord of the Rings! Well, less than 8 hours on this coast before New Moon opens in theaters people! I can’t remember a time when more people were more frenzied for the release of a movie. And whether you’re Team  Edward or Team Jacob, if you’re a TwiHard — or someone who just revels in indulging their inner teenager — this will be a most delicious movie event! And it will start all over again with Eclipse in June 2010. So, I think New Moon will oust 2012 from the box office throne this weekend along with any other movie unfortunate enough to open on Friday, November 2009. What do you think? Viva Le Vampire!

~P.S.~ Twilight has been playing in some theaters before the midnight showing of New Moon, and according to reports, it was Thursday’s second highest in ticket sales. I wonder if New Moon will be the highest grossing weekend box office hit of all time? Most likely. (Sorry, Batman.) I wonder if New Moon will have the stamina to overthrow Titanic from the coveted spot of Top Grossing Film of All Time? It very well could happen.

Did you know that Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant is a book first published in 2000? Apparently it is Book 2 in The Saga of Darren Shan. Interestingly enough, these books are also written by who else? Darren Shan. (a.k.a. Darren O’Shaughnessy which is his real name, and his other pen name is D.B. Shan F.Y.I.)

And here I thought The Vampire’s Assistant was just another mind-to-script-to-screen movie hopping on the vampire hype wagon taking full advantage of the fang fever sweeping the world! I guess it’s good to have fangs these days!

Will you go see it? Or will you, like me, wait for that other fang-tabulous movie that is on the near horizon? The countdown has begun, BTW!

Bella Swan’s birthday.  Why not take a jaunt down to Forks, Washington and join in the vampy fun! Forks is even inviting Arizonians — or is it Arizonites? You may even catch a glimpse of Stephenie Meyer herself, if she opts to surprise fans with an appearance, and get those hardcovers I know you Twihards will be lugging around with you autographed maybe! (It is rumored Stephenie will not be making an appearance in New Moon like she did in Twilight — BOO! News on the street is that director Chris Weitz forgot! How embarrassing, as Stephenie Meyer was actually on set during the shooting of New Moon!)

~Quickbite!~ The Vampire Diaries premiered last night. I wonder how it measured up, because you know it will be compared to Twilight. (It even echoed the mother of all vampire tales, Bram Stoker’s Dracula!) It’s been called a Twilight/Trueblood hybrid — Truelight! ™ — how will it stack up against these two vampire empire giants? I wonder if they’ll play the heck out of it like they are Melrose Place 2.0?

~MAJOR P.S.!~ I did not know this! L.J. Smith wrote The Vampire Diaries series which was first published in 1991! That’s like 18 years ago! Way long before Twilight. Stephenie Meyer would have been 18 years old at the time. Interesting. But as we all know, every great story has it’s kernels from something great that has gone before. It is inevitable. I wonder how big the books were with fans back then? I wonder why Twilight took such a stranglehold on fans in this era of fantasy and lore literature? Maybe we’re just ready for stuff like this now?
