Listen up people…..I just heard that a well loved series of books is coming to HBO later this month. Alexander McCall Smith’s No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency will be premiering Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 8pm EST. Will you be tuning in? I know the books have a large fan base all over the world, and just recently I received these books as a gift from a good friend. I’m sure he may tune in a time or two. Just goes to show you how hungry film and TV are for literature that translates to the screen. Write a great piece of literature and it won’t be long before Hollywood comes a courtin’!

Also newsworthy, there’s a little buzzing about Rihanna (Robyn Fenty) starring in a remake of the Bodyguard. You remember that flick that starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner? I wonder if it will be any better than the first, and who will be her Bodyguard? Any suggestions?

I wonder if the movies will depict the Botswana characters as wonderfully as Alexander McCall Smith crafted them. For anyone who has lived in Africa, you just fall about laughing, because when you are reading his books you can hear the voices, the accents and the scenes are are so visual. When you have read one book you just have to read the next and the next.

I recently tried reading the first book and have to admit, I couldn't get into it. All I heard were the accents in my head and I started to laugh! (It brings me back to childhood). I would way rather watch the show and am excited to watch it too.
As for Rihanna, girlfriend needs to stay away from acting. She is an awesome singer and I don't think that I want to see her remake this movie. It would probably end up being so juvenile, appealing to younger crowds. Like a hip hop dance movie mixed in with intrigue! HAHA

I've never read the books, but I thought the movie was cute. I think Jill Scott did a pretty accurate and decent job with the accent, and I was impressed with her acting. After seeing the movie I may try to read the books.
