Well, it was inevitable. Paranormal Activity 2 hits theaters October 22 (you can demand to see it first!) and it looks freakier than the first one. Remember, it does take a lot to scare me. I have a high fear tolerance when it comes to films about the paranormal, although I greatly enjoy them! (Slasher flicks are a different story. The scare factor in slasher films is a different kind of scary…but that is another post altogether.) The second Paranormal installment looks freakier to me only because there is a child involved somehow, and as a mother, that always creeps me out. I mean, what could be scarier than some terrifying, unseen force focusing its malevolent attention upon your innocent child? Or is that what is going on? I don’t know. I’m boggled on this one. All I can say is, thank goodness for the dog.
Check out the two trailers below and tell me what you think about them. Do they confuse you more than they reveal to you?
Case 39 starring Renee Zellweger and Jodelle Ferland in theaters today!
Well folks, October is here! It’s my favorite month of the year for many reasons, one of them being it’s the month where talk of ghouls, ghosts and horror takes center stage!
To kick off October 2010, Case 39 is in theaters today! This looks like a very scary movie and irregular fare for Renee Zellweger. However, I am looking forward to seeing her pull this one off. Scary horror movies like this can be very psychological in nature, and it probably needs a talented actress in it to relay the believability necessary. After all, this flick starts off as a case of possible child abuse that morphs into the terrifying landscape of the supernatural. Bradley Cooper (Renee Z‘s current flame. Is the set of this film where the romance started?), Ian McShane (in the trailers for this movie, he looks to be a “good guy” as opposed to being a despicable villain…very interesting!), and Jodelle Ferland (remember her in Silent Hill?) round out the cast for this creepy film. Despite what some critics are saying, this flick is definitely on my TO SEE LIST! What about you? Will you check it out?
The American version of the Swedish film Let the Right One In is in theaters tomorrow, but it isn’t quite what you might think. In fact, there seems to be a little bit of a difference of creative opinions between versions.
That’s right, they are making another version of the novel Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist, but it isn’t an adaptation like the original movie, and it isn’t a remake of the original film. Confusing? Yes.
There will be a few adjustments, but the new movie will still have similarities to both the book and the first movie, and be available to a broader audience. It will also have a bigger budget, which means there will most likely be some amped up scary moments that were a little low key in the original movie most likely due to budget. But bigger doesn’t always mean better, and the first movie was pretty darn good if you ask me.
How far would you go to be a friend?
The story is about a bullied 12 year old boy who unwittingly makes friends with a girl vampire of seemingly the same age. Being a vampire though means she is actually quite a bit older. In my mind it brings into question the ethos of creating a child vampire, and is vaguely reminiscent of the moral dilemma creating Claudia posed in another well known vampire flick you may have seen.
At first he is unaware of what she is, but soon comes to realize the truth about her and her nature. As is the way with children, there is a lack of guile and an innocence to their friendship. And of course, there are benefits to having a vampire for a friend. And with a vampire being around, you can count on the fact that there will be casualties.
Innocence lost.
The state of innocence and the horrific existence of the damned are juxtaposed in this story, both bittersweet and horrendous all at once. Will Matt Reeves be able to capture that? I’ll give him a chance.
Innocence never lasts forever.
The original Swedish film, Let the Right One In, was directed by Tomas Alfredson. The American version is directed by Matt Reeves ( the director of Cloverfield and Felicity writer). Let Me In hits theaters tomorrow. Whatever happens, it has been promised that this film will be different. Worth seeing? Most likely.
Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett in Robin Hood directed by Ridley Scott.
This Robin Hood is an ace movie about the infamous and legendary heroRobin of the Hood. At first you may think it is a movie about his exciting exploits as an outlaw alone, however, it is much more than that. It’s a movie that depicts who he was before he was the Robin Hood we all know and love, and what forces made him into the larger than life outlaw of Sherwood Forest. We also get to meet all our faves, Lady Marion, his merry menLittle John, Will Scarlet, Friar Tuck, and of course, everyone’s favorite villain, King John the royal runt.
This is a movie about the origins of an outlaw beloved by the people. It is a story that is gritty and very true to the medieval way of life, real historical events expertly woven with intricate English folklore. I found it a refreshing take on a famous medieval tale that has been told a thousand times before.
Ridley Scott‘s version of Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe and CateBlanchett is out today on DVD! Woohoo!
~P.S.~ This movie has a strong message of fate coursing through it. What about you? Do you believe in fate?

Tom Hardy as Eames in Inception is sitting pretty in Hollywood too!
Now, we all know that Leonardo DiCaprio has a home run with Inception, and was there ever any question? (But will it beat Avatar…..) Anyhoo, Leo D. is easily recognizable, as is Ellen Page — I mean after Juno, no one could utter the name Diablo Cody without the name Ellen Page being uttered within the same breath — and so is Joseph Gordon-Levitt (remember him on 3rd Rock from the Sun? Loved that show!) and Ken Watanabe (awesome in Memoirs of a Geisha and The Last Samurai, just to name a few). But let me ask you this, do you recognize Tom Hardy?
Well, if you’re like me, you may have had a little brain tickle when you saw his face, and his oddly intriguing, and endearing, slightly crooked of tooth grin. (When Winona Ryder rocked the overlapping front tooth, the masses called it a snaggle tooth. The media can be so mean to women. I, for one, loved her snaggle tooth! Believe me, I’ve seen snaggle teeth, and they aren’t cute like that…anyway, I digress…) You may even have sighed. But do you remember him? For about 30 seconds, my brain flipped quickly through my rolla-dex of men I’ve seen on screen before, and voila! Search villain category….have you guessed it yet? Being the smart and savvy readers that you are, of course you have.
Here is a Villain Extraordinaire I actually thoroughly enjoy remembering. He’s left an indelible mark on my mind for some reason. Is it Freudian or Jungian or some such? I have no clue, but I’m sure there is a reason Tom Hardy as this particular villain left such an impression on me. Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed Tom Hardy as Shinzon in Star Trek: Nemesis.
Shinzon_Tom Hardy in Star Trek Nemesis_What a villain!
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I cut my own teeth on Star Trek….I’ve seen them all!
Blink and you’ll miss it, but here is Tom Hardy as snide Raumont in Marie Antoinette, directed by Sofia Coppola and a brilliant movie I might add! A must see!
Tom Hardy as Raumont in Marie Antoinette_The dandy on the right!
I told ya I seriously went to my rolla-dex on this one! It was hard to look away from Gerard Butler, Idris Elba and Thandie Newton in this movie, but I’ve got an eye! Here’s Tom Hardy as Handsome Bob playin’ it to the hilt in Guy Ritchie‘s RocknRolla.
Tom Hardy as Handsome Bob in RocknRolla sure is handsome!
And of course, I have to mention his role in Inception. What do you think of him as Eames?
Tom Hardy as Eames in Inception_Move over Joseph!
What is your favorite Tom Hardy role? Well, I think you may know mine. The next movie I’m excited to see him in is Warrior, and let’s not forget Mad Max, of course. What side of Tom Hardy will we see next I wonder? Whatever side it is, I’m sure we’ll be entertained. (Did you think I was going to say his good side? )
