Chris Hemsworth does the hammer wielding Norse God of Thunder some serious justice.
Marvel unveiled the striking new poster today along with the details that the Thor: The Dark World teaser trailer hits the web Tuesday, April 23 via iTunes Movie Trailers. It would have been a stroke of genius if they’d planned to debut the teaser trailer two days later on Thors-day but at least we don’t have to wait for Iron Man 3 on May 3 to get a sneak peak of the God of Thunder in action.
If anything can be said about Chris Hemsworth it’s this — he does the hammer wielding Norse god Thor some serious justice. His perfect hero stance will definitely strike fear into the bones of master villains everywhere. This is one movie poster that doesn’t disappoint.
Along with Chris Hemsworth the usual suspects will be returning to the pantheon of Asgard. Most notably Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Idris Elba as Heimdall. Natalie Portman and Stellan Skarsgård will also be reprising their roles as Jane Foster and Dr. Erik Selvig. The cast also includes Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, and Rene Russo.
The most exciting casting news by far has to be the addition of Christopher Eccleston (Gone in Sixty Seconds, Doctor Who, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra), an actor extremely adept at playing superb baddies. He will be tackling the role of Marvel Universe arch supervillain Malekith the Accursed (pronounced either as “Mah-leh-kith” or “May-leh-kith”), ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. All in all a very solid cast, but do you think they got the casting right? Who would you have chosen as Thor’s nemesis? Whose your favorite cast member?
Alan Taylor, director of HBO‘s epic mega hit Game of Thrones is at the helm of the Thor sequel so we can probably expect a whole lot of awesome! And Marvel is not done wowing us yet. Guardians of the Galaxy starring Zoe Saldana and Michael Rooker is slated for a release date in August 2014.
Plot details reveal that Thor 2 is off to explore dark places as the next step in the superhero’s adventures. Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
Will Thor really sacrifice everything to save us all? We’ll have to wait and see. Thor: The Dark World brings the thunder to theaters November 8, 2013.
